Non-intrusive Discourse Markers
Icons can help us orient ourselves in texts and so on. Below are my typical ones, along with very brief explanations and links to further information.
The main icon near the top of a "Build Tao" essay of stringed points. It shows that
one or many ways (means) of gaining or building (for) Tao presumably follows. [More] [More] [More]
The more rarely used bramble bush serves as a humour icon; it shows that its adjoining section is fairly humorous, but not without its thorns, perhaps. [More]

The first, beginning level of the stepwise discourse in question has this heading. There are no fixed images to go with it. Many and widely divergent images occur. [More]

A five-pointed star - may signal a marriage - and underscore that Tao (some variant of it, really), could be attained at this stage. [More] [More]
Summary and Gist
A magpie is frequently used to to mark a three-steps summary of the essay proper.
"In a nutshell" signals the summary is summarised, often in the form of a capsule (extract) that can be favourable to consider. Who knows?
Anecdote or Similar
This icon serves to mark anecdotes when they appear on site pages. Anecdotes round off some table essays. [More]
