Wisdom of Lahiri Mahasaya - 3

Lahiri Mahasaya Wisdom
Lahiri Baba's wisdom is considered -
Shyama Charan Lahiri, or Lahiri Mahasaya (1828-1895), initiated many thousand persons discreetly in higher yoga, and made facets of such yoga publicly known too. He was the disciple of Mahavatar Babaji and the guru of Sri Yukteswar (1855-1936).

Foreword

THE ORIGINAL commentaries were written by Lahiri Baba and published in 1893 by Panchanan Bhattacharya (see p. 6). Here they are modified as Self-teachings. There is room for it in Lahiri's texts. See what we got:

Lessons of the Self

1. Of the Self

The Lord of this world is pure [Pure Stuff; i.e., Essence], and stays in the thousands petals of akshara (on the top of the head) - those are the letters of eternity — The core of man (also called the atom, anu) is a part of the ultimate Self (God, Brahman) — The Breath of life or secret wind of life (Pranabayu) is one of vitality. [P. 9; 7; 7]

The inner Self and supreme Self is your Master (Paramatman) — During kriya practice whatever form is formed is called Sri, inner Beauty. [Cf. p. 9; 7] (2)

2. Products of OM bow to the Self inside

Sages bow spontaneously to themselves. [Cf. p. 7]

In the vast kutastha is the supreme Person, the Self's form — The physical body is the product of the sound of OM (Aum). [Cf. p. 8; and p 7] (4)

3. Self-seeing reaches far -

Hamsa is also called Kilak — By the calming Hamsa one is advised to bow automatically to Oneself — OM is the essence. [Cf. p. 8; 8; 7]

The selves of Maya is the ultimate Self (Purna Brahman). [Cf. p. 9]

The secret Self sees everywhere — The inner sound is always there. [Cf. p. 9 and P. 7] (6)

Guru Gita Essence

Inspiration from Lahiri Baba's Guru Gita Commentary

Slapstick entry Not a few religions tell of a great contentment to get attuned to or to work to attain. By hearing and attuning to a particular sound and the area between the eyebrows, this contentment may be had by stages. It comes by diving into a sesame seed -

To dao

Lo Hear OM in the essential calmness

Lo Don't tell the liberating message to anyone that is disrespectful, naughty, atheistic, or demoniac — Do not give the liberating message to any emotionalist or "worshipper of Vishnu". [Cf. v. 109; 107]

The essence of whatever exists is nectar, that is, sweet tranquillity — Beyond one's Self there is nothing to experience. [Cf. v. 34; 37]

Listen how to get bliss, enjoyment, happiness and liberation — The holy scriptures are all polluted. [Cf. v. 46; 7-8]

The sound of OM can and should be heard — The One (God) is eternal (Nitya). [Cf. v. 31; 48]

The ultimate Self is pure. In it the gods live — Friends, relatives, father, mother, modify the One Self for sure. [Cf. v. 96-97; 102]

The whole world is the sign of a Self — Who criticises the Self goes deep down into hell — This world is the ocean of hell. [V. 67; 58; 23-24]

Inner knowledge is a Form [modification] of God — A spot the size of a thumb is seen in the area above the eyebrows — The Lord is the size of a thumb at the heart. [Cf. v. 48; 72; 70] (2)

Work while holding onto the Self — Make japa and hold on to the after-effect poise of kriya. [Cf. v. 42; 14]

One who has been cursed, can be saved by the ultimate Self - or Guru - that is, (someone of) the highest state of Consciousness. [Cf. v. 62, 64]

Spontaneity is without sound — It should be all right to increase the life-length. [Cf. v. 71; 91]

The omniscient state is finer than water and subtler than smoke — You can tell well for general benefit. [Cf. v. 27; 81]

The kingly Essence reveals — Tremendous Bliss (God) is very kind — "The tree of eternal life" - truth and consciousness - can be said to wear white clothes (exist in the white inner Light). #56; 50-52; 50-52]

LoMany religions tell of a great contentment

Old English Sheepdog The seeker's dream life improves till he stops having bad dreams — Listen to the inner sound [of a muffled hammer] - this is the main worship — Hamsa is the subtle state of tranquillity itself. [Cf. v. 89; 11; v74]

Eternally pure sunya ("emptiness") brings Ravishing Bliss — Self-devotion is very rare, for sure. [Cf. v. 49; 101]

The Self contains many religions too — When you instruct others in the higher yogas and their adjoined ways of living, do it secretly. [Cf. v. 100; 106]

The ultimate Self is the size of a sesame seed in the area between the eyebrows — One is to attune to and next hold onto main effects of the liberated state. [Cf. v. 72; 38]

Give just the cream teachings — and do not lie [Cf. v. 82; 60 (4)]

Freedom and other, far lower successes comes by steadfast sincerity, by reading, listening, and writing, and so on — He who chants [very fruitfully] should be pure and a man of wisdom (jnani), and seeing him should stop reincarnation. [Cf. v. 82; 98]

My Self is in the world, and yet separate from it — One is to know how to serve the Self. [v. 36; cf. v. 44]

The inner sky of the heart is crystal pure — Sweet and delightful calm will bring contentment. [Cf. v. 69; 34]

Sincerity inwards is a great sacrifice (tapa) — All austerities (tapas) are fruitless. Do not doubt this, it is certain. [Cf. v. 100; v9]

Neither the cravingly rich nor the unfortunate practice kriya — The seeker can enchant. He becomes dear to the gods and the king. [Cf. v. 103; 87]

The Self is soundless spontaneity — The spontaneous state may not be explainable. [Cf. v. 71; 71]

The Witness of all is just above your eyes. [Cf. v. 48]

LoThe Self-Well remains on high

3 "As you attain realization, act in accordance with your Realization." — "If the seeker can practice Kriya just three times being perfectly detached, he can attain liberation". [V. 14; 91]

Jolly good kriya practice can remove great fear — Kundalini moves in a subtle way. [Cf. v. 112; 74]

One who is at one with the ultimate Self has no basic inner sufferings. Where he is, that place becomes holy after some time — One meditates well and absolute Knowledge is gained, and also being unfettered. [Cf. v. 75-78; 55]

The area between the eyebrows is the Central Heart in one of its modifications — The highest Bliss (Brahmananda) is the giver of gladness. [Cf. v. 72; 48]

The ultimate Self is present in all - in heaven, on earth, or below — There is nothing except . . . [V. 29; 6]

You can tell this message to those who are extremely calm and also respectful. They can be qualified for learning kriya — It is a boon to gain both dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth here and beyond), kama (lust, joy), and moksha (freedom). [Cf. v. 108; 92]

Dao is to be had "All those who do not hold onto the Self dwell in darkness." [V. 26] (6)

Gist

Abstract service The steps up are:
  1. Hear OM in the essential calmness
  2. Many religions tell of a great contentment to attune oneself to or link up with. Through yoga self-help you can do it, many are eager to tell.
  3. The Self as a tunnel (a well) remains on high.
Simple adages Hear OM by being shown how to do it. Attune yourself to it, and get more content through it. Then, by degrees you may see the third eye and notice it is a tunnel to plumb as you care.
