Someone mentioned the very large number of failures that the US inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) had met with during his search for a new storage battery - fifty thousand experiments before he got mentionable results.

"Results?" said Edison. "Why, I've got a lot of results. I know fifty thousand things that won't work."
