The State of the World
ContentsThe State of the WorldGo firmly against idylization of current university environments. It is a tragi-comical fact is that many mental conditions and disturbances are "diagnosed" according to subjectively had impressions only, and then some mental labels are attached. Along the same line of thinking one may consider many university teachers schizoid by holding some grudges against the lot. That may not be so very wise to do. University Schizoids
It could be that the mode of work that has found expression in the list above reveals some averaged public persona, as Jung would have called it. On the basis of such parameters, if the diagnosing expert maintains he "sees" five or so of such parameters in someone, he may call the subject schizoid and establish it socially. It is a matter of who is top-dog and who is under-dog in a conflict. For example, Adolf Hitler is understood as psychopathic among analysts today, but in the early 1930s the common German's view of him stemmed from himself, and was different. And he had the power to put away those who dared to diagnose-oppose him too [Daks]. After his suicide the tables were turned - Normally it is a fallacy to claim that a university teacher is a schizoid because his role has many schizoid traits, for diagnoses of mental phenomena are matters of mental identification and labelling and partly of personal taste too, not just of who is in power. In today's analyzing of persons there is ordinarily no weighing of vector strengths, and that is a weakness of design. Correspondingly, current diagnostic criteria are so crude that they would not necessarily differentiate between "very humorless", moderate humorless", and "little humorless" (or distant, or avoidant, unemotive, etc.). The current kind of operative psychiatric analysis is gross and the strength of the assumed schizoid public disorder is indeed debatable, just as psychiatrist diagnoses turn out to be in "courts of flaw". It happens that one expert in psychiatry assessed one thing, another expert opposes it, and finally a judge, who is not an expert in psychiatry, decides what to settle on in the matter. Alas.A propos: A Chinese thus describes a trial in the English law courts: "One man is quite silent, another talks all the time, and twelve men condemn the man who has not said a word." [Of] People in OsloThere was once a "smith" in the Norwegian capital who looked serious when he told he had killed another by striking him dead. It is ill-founded to object to this by, "But this is how people in Oslo are found to behave in public spaces anyway!? They don't greet one another, as a too rough rule, and they offend by disheartening conduct" - even in the opera, at the airport terminal, and so on, as Odd Lovoll has given thought to. So we may concur, "Maybe Norwegian university professors are no better and no worse than other Norwegians". And it could be an idiotic and halfway heartless culture that is a real, big culprit (matrix) at bottom of much of this too.But countries and life styles differ. Killing bulls and other animals for sport is one outlet of publicly sanctioned cruelty to animals. It had a firm place in some society formerly. To stultify emprisoned aminals, is that good for man? To shape them to suit limited food production concerns to their loss, is that good for man in a wider perspective? Stupefied by "bread and circus" entertainment, thousands and millions laughingly ignore the cruelty involved, again and again. Awareness of aminal rights is lacking. Telling animals offenders that "Your conduct is gross and stupid!" may bring trouble, but seems very much needed. AdjoinedLinks:Schizoid Personality Disorder.
