TO BE CALLED exemplary in the big business work under others and to be exemplary towards one's inherent deepest needs, can be very different things. Things are not always as they appear.

Hunger is a very difficult thing to tackle. Even if ruthless butchering business serves nature, small children don't seem to accept it far and wide. And we should heed the wisdom of little children, some tell us.

Good handling knowledge can banish many difficulties and fears.

ZEN MASTER Tokusan (Dok Sahn) went to the dining room from the meditation hall holding his bowl. Seppo was on duty cooking. When he met Tokusan he said:
   "The dinner drum has not yet been beaten. Where are you going with your bowl?"
   So Tokusan returned to his room.
   Seppo told Ganto about this. Ganto said:
   "Old Tokusan did not understand the ultimate truth."
   Tokusan heard of this remark and asked Ganto to come to him.
   "I have heard you are not approving my Zen," he said.
   Ganto admitted this indirectly. Tokusan said nothing.
   Next day Tokusan delivered an entirely different kind of lecture to the monks. Ganto laughed and clapped his hands, saying:
   "I see our old man understands the ultimate truth indeed."

You may wonder why you should care about what Ganto thought, eh?
