Like doves, philosophers occur worldwide and vary considerably in size. Unlike most birds, the doves and pigeons and philosophers produce a nutritious substance to feed the young. Doves and philosophers alike are able to cling to branches and even hang upside down. And both sorts are well known for airborne written messages.
