Tales of Madame d'Aulnoy Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville (1650/1651–1705), became a baroness at sixteen, when she was married to a baron. She later became a French writer. Many of her tales were aimed at grown-ups rather than children, but they were adapted to children in translations.
