Tales of Madame d'Aulnoy Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville (1650/1651–1705), became a baroness at sixteen, when she was married to a baron. She later became a French writer. Many of her tales were for grown-ups and not for children; they were better adapted to children in translations.
