Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-69), Dutch painter and etcher, excellent at depicting and painting moods and dramatic guises, also known for self-portraits. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history and the most important in Dutch history. His self-portraits form a unique and intimate biography. The most notable collections of Rembrandt's work are at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. |
