The ability to form one's own, inner images (imagination), is one of the most vital and finest that humans have, Zoroaster is credited with teaching. The cultural psychologist Jerome Bruner considers that stories build culture by feeding our thinking. He says that there seems to be two broad ways that humans organise and structure their thinking, and stories is one of them. Stories are found to deal with people and their plights. The art of interpretation may be slowly evolved to deal with underlying messages in a lot of inherited narratives (stories). - [More of Bruner] The desire to seem clever often keeps us from being so. - François de La Rochefoucauld The doubter is a true man of science; . . . he believes in science. - Claude Bernard The environment one is within and a part of, has to be faced or superseded, or major troubles set in. The great men of science are supreme artists - Martin H. Fischer The inner voice may also try to enable you. The inner voice of mature conscience has to be guided by values: One value is "protection"; another is "rise above". To learn to observe or look intently is fit too. The innocence that feels no risk and is taught no caution, can be more vulnerable than guilt, and oftener assailed. - With Nathaniel P. Willis The joys of fit linkages can bring about dance and play, not just right and stiff regulations from "over one's head". The money - the savoury knowledge - which you furnish to your mind, co-determines the nature of your life. The more that people draw from a power station, the more good chances for wealth can thereby come up. And the more that people draw wealth through being given great opportunities, the more they seem to squander and dispossess. Such persons could profit by sticking well to some fit aspects of their heritage. The more we exploit nature, the more our options are reduced, until our survival is at stake. - Cf. Morris K. Udall, American Congressman (1922-1998) The next best thing to being humorous oneself, could be to quote the anecdote of someone else. - Cf. Christian Nestell Bovee on wit The offhand-looking art of deceiving stubborn diplomats could go a long way towards: "Speak the truth, as they never believe it." - Lesson from Camillo di Cavour The ones who learn to observe candidly may raise some new standards that show others that some have struggled through and kept faithful to their own best outlooks and the like. That could be inspiring. The outcomes of good work depend in part on who you are with. The priest persuades a humble people to endure their hard lot, and a scientist thinks of a method that does away with the hard lot altogether. - Max Percy, abr. The Sage hardly reveals himself. - Tao Te Ching, chap. 22 The wisdom of the wise, and the experience of ages, may be preserved by quotation. - Isaac D'Israeli There are many forms and facets of luck. There is nothing in the world more powerful than an idea except the power of another idea and another idea, and another, and so on - cf. James R. Smith There is often more than one tune to play, and all are far from seasonal. And not all tunes are merry. Think of summer in winter, ahead of time. Some do, and get cheaper vacations for one thing. Those who do not read are no better off than those who cannot. - Proverb Time is a great teacher, but kills a lot of pupils. - With (Louis) Hector Berlioz Time spent on the art of having as little misery as possible should be time very well spent. - Cf. Samuel Johnson To achieve excellence, refrain from doing less than excellent work. To avoid a certain dryness of living there is the maturing family. To be at home may feel straining, for it entails being homeward bound . . . To be handy includes rising above decrees of others. To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment. - With Ralph Waldo Emerson To delight a child with something that once delighted yourself, may equal true delight once again. To develop a new approach consumes time and effort and perhaps human resources and goodwill. To idealise unworthy ones may ensnare - To lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. - John Lubbock.
